*New barrier performance evaluation method
The effectiveness of the new grease barrier is tested according to DIN 53116. With this method, a worst case scenario is simulated: A large amount of palm kernel fat solution is applied onto the barrier board, and the duration of the grease resistance (until grease stains appear on the top side) is measured. This allows to evaluate the grease resistance for the shelf-life of a product in only several hours. The new fluorine-free grease barriers fall under category III. Thus, the new quality will have the description III instead of the KIT Value in their respective names. The current “KIT-method” is not applicable for measuring the barrier performance of a fluorine free barrier.
