EBB 2015 Expansion
January 2015
EBB has seen continued growth in 2014. Sales for the year are up over 20% following a 12% increase in 2013. Underlying profitability has also risen as the company continues to deliver market leading efficiencies on distribution.
At the same time EBB is launching a new wood-free coated product from Sappi – GalerieArt.
Sappi, the world’s largest producer of coated papers have signed a deal with EBB making them the largest stockist of all Sappi grades in the UK.
“Elliott Baxter is now the leading supplier of coated paper in the UK and in order to further consolidate our position, we have taken the decision to switch our major supplier to Sappi. As well as being the world's largest producer of coated paper, we believe Sappi share our long term vision for merchant distribution in the UK. They also have the technical expertise and cost-efficient production methods to ensure that their top quality papers will give the best possible print results.
The EBB policy of continually investing profits to improve the infrastructure of the Company allows us to offer outstanding stock coverage and delivery facility. This allied with Sappi's GalerieArt will surely make for a winning combination” Tim Elliott, Chairman.
GalerieArt is available in three finishes – Satin, Gloss and Matt. The products have been specifically produced & selected to meet the demanding requirements of UK commercial print.
EBB will launch this unique product range in January 2015; the initial stock order for 8,000 tonnes has been delivered to EBB branches nationwide, with a further 4,000 tonnes arriving in January, 2015.
GalerieArt will become the UK’s largest stock range of coated papers with over 550 individual items available off the shelf.
“GalerieArt is the culmination of 12 months work between Sappi & EBB. We have worked closely together to bring to market a product that is ideally and specifically suited to the UK commercial print sector. High print quality with excellent production performance makes this a stand out product. As ever we have invested massively to bring the largest possible range to market with a depth of stock unmatched by any other coated product” said Chris Sandwell, EBB Sales and Marketing Director.
John Clinton, Managing Director for Sappi UK said “We are delighted to be working with Elliott Baxter, the largest independent stockist merchant in the UK with an excellent reputation for service with UK printers. This collaboration further supports Sappi’s tailored market approach of using the most effective channels to bring Sappi products efficiently to the market.”
2015 will also see a massive investment in distribution infrastructure which will include two of our branches moving to new and significantly larger sites along with a £2 million spend on delivery vehicles.
These new branches are needed to cope with the increased volume and also for the consolidation of the two EBB subsidiary businesses into the EBB distribution network.
The new Manchester branch was operational from 5th January, 2015. The 60,000 sq ft facility has the capacity for 12,000 pallets which is 8,000 more than the current site. Based on the same trading estate as the current operation, the transition was made over the Christmas period.
“Having already doubled the size of our Sheffield warehouse in 2014 we are delighted to announce the relocation of our Manchester operation which will facilitate our continued growth, and further demonstrate our emphasis on customer service.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our staff and customers for their hard work in helping make these changes happen so smoothly” commented David Tennent, Director.
Thurrock will be operational in January, 2015, with the logistics operation moved over Christmas from the current site in Charlton, and the sales team following later in the month. The new 52,000 sq ft facility has capacity for 8,000 pallets and 2,000 tonnes of reels.
“The planned move is much needed; sales growth in the local area has meant we outgrew Charlton two years ago. The new facility allows us to increase stock in both volume and range, improving the efficiency and relying less on our internal trunking system for stock, leading to Thurrock becoming a ‘self-sufficient’ branch.
The staff have embraced the move and, with the exception of one individual retiring, our whole work force has relocated, allowing continuity for our customers” Justin Lawes, Regional Sales Manager.
These two new facilities will see the EBB storage capacity increase from 22,000 tonnes to 29,000 tonnes, ensuring that the new range has excellent availability from day one of launch.
Once these two new sites are fully operational, EBB will look at the potential to consolidate subsidiary businesses in to the distribution network.
